christmas is getting nearer. and it seems to be a good season to write a little bit about the next person in that class of 2010. the first time i remember talking to mimi, she was asking if she could join my physics class – it was the first week in the school year. it was a pleasure to have her and her uncountable hearts in two classes last year. and she is someone who embodies the typical season spirit during the whole year! she is very authentic, trusts people and isn’t afraid to show affection. by reading this, you must have found out that serami has a gigantic heart.
and the big heart desease seems to have affected other members of this special class. the next one on my list is pietro, and he is even more solid than his name might indicate. the rock is very loyal, extremely trustworthy, honest, sometimes almost naïve. he is always very polite and positive, but he defends the things he believes in with great passion. my guess is that pietro is a kind a friend you want to have, mostly when things are not as good as they could be. ah, and something funny – he kind of reminds you of matt dillon… hahaha.
a really good friend of serami’s is this next one. nicholas… well i don’t even know where to start. are you getting the idea of how much i like this class? this kid is really precious. talented, smart, very reliable, great sense of humor. although he doesn’t say too much, he is not typically shy. in general, he has a good attitude towards people and life, and he was obviously brought up very well. and, of course all of this makes him very well suited to be a great friend.
now the next student is one of the top of his class, in grades. he is also one of the most gifted football players in his class and in the school, and he roots quite heavily for fc barcelona and argentinian players like messi. very viciated in football, he has an incredible knowledge of players all around the world. he works quite well for school, but still finds the balance to do other things that interest him. he is a quiet leader, a kicktipp champion and an all around great guy. he is martin lopez.
now this next student is quite an interesting combination. for one, he is a brilliant mind, top of the class in math, capable of great logical thinking; simply competent. but, on the other hand, he is very helpful, understanding, patient, driven and polite. yes, i’m talking about mark hu. who? (funney!) mark is always looking to be challenged, and he has the right attitude to be both happy and successful. and that’s what i wish him!

Mr. Gonçalves,
A figure of mythical proportions by now, I still remember the day when I first met him. It was in August, right at the beginning of 10th grade, and I remember entering the room besides the computer lab (I can't remember the number) and seeing Gonçalves. He was sitting in a chair in the middle of the room, naturally shy considering it was the first time he had met most of us (since I, for example, wasn't in the Geometry class he taught once). What came afterwards is, of course, known to everyone: we befriended the soccer-addict Mr. Gonçalves and, as each day passed, we came to learn about his life in a deeper, more personal way. The fact that he cheers for such a pathetic team called Bayern Munchen (just kidding mister don't stay "toda"), his friendly mood, his strong will to teach us when some of the times we had difficulty in learning, and his ability to unite the class into admiring the "beauty" and intricateness (I dont even know if this word exists) of math were what really called my attention. I have to say that that 10th grade Algebra 2 class was tremendously special, and I still remember those nice moments besides competent people such as Nicholas (a.ka. Nicoban), Serami (a.ka. Babami), Manuel (a.k.a. Poti), Tomas (a.ka. Vaneigen), etc. Gonçalves awakened the math spirit inside of me, and thus I chose to participate in the Math HL the following year (perhaps not the best choice hauahauauah). But then again, I remember Gonçalves not only for his amazing mathematical and teaching skills, but also for his good-humored personality. I have never seen him lacking respect to someone, his politeness towards people has always made others admire and respect him not only as a teacher but also as the competent individual that he is. Merry Christ’mers’, have a happy new Yearers, and may competence be with you!

Mr. Gonçalves,
After more than two years knowing you, I have a confession to make. My first impressions of you were not of the best (Rrrrooooddddeeeeiiiii, “A” in math never again), but throughout these years, you have proved that I was completely wrong. You are able to teach and still notice every detail about someone, and perhaps even what each student is thinking. It is exactly this trait that makes you a great teacher, being able to adapt your teaching style to engage each and every student. You are a teacher that really cares about the students and wants them to succeed. Learning is your first objective and you are ready to take the further step to ensure it. You are able to provide us challenging tests without impacting to much our grades (hurray to math Hl Curve). Academic competence is a state that we as pupils are all trying in to achieve but you show us that grades are not the most important thing. The class of 2010 is very worried with grades but I believe only makes us strive more and more towards our objectives. What is unique about our class is this friendly competition in which everyone wants to be the best but is always willing to help others. There are times in which IB can get pretty overwhelming but we always know that we can count on you. The first impression is definitely the one that doesn’t stay and I am relieved to know that I was wrong in the beginning. You have not only become one of our favorite teachers but also a role model and inspirational figure, personally I call it competence.
